Day two of Electric Forest was more of an adventure compared to day one. We had figured out where everything was, had plenty of food for breakfast, found out where the best food vendors where and then established our plan of attack. When we first arrived, Leksy and I were able to catch Nit Grit‘s set as well as Minnesota‘s. Both of which ended up being absolutely HEAVY which had bassheads from all around flocking to the stage to catch a bassline. After Minnesota, all of the planning ended up paying off when it was time for the Dim Mak  stage to light up. After eating a big plate of Thai food, we headed back over to continue raging. First up on the Tripolee stage was Alvin Risk, who set the tone for the night by throwing down a supreme, bass heavy set. Next up, Autoerotique stepped up to the stage, and delivered one of my most favorite sets of the night. So on that note, I decided to include his new song “Roll The Drums” below this write up. Which is awesome, because Felix Cartal created one hell of a remix! Which brings me to his set. I have to say, It’s a good thing they include time in-between sets at a show like this, because people needed to find their faces so they can keep raging for the rest of the night. At Felix Cartal‘s set, the canadians came out to rage. I witnessed canadian flags, balloons and a set that had the crowd moving like a stormy sea. Ultimately, after he crushed the crowd, it almost didn’t occur to me that Zeds Dead was next. All I was thinking was, “holy shit this is the best line-up ever!” Then the bass dropped. Zeds Dead began the slaughter once more, and killed the crowd. But hold the phone and call the ambulance later because Datsik was next!! The night continued to get more and more crazy, as Excision made a guest appearance during his set! BOOM!! The crowd was in pieces. And who could close out a night full of madness? None other than the one and only Steve Aoki of course. With all of the death and destruction left behind after Zeds Dead and Datsik, it seemed appropriate to to melt people down into puddles afterwards. In all honesty though, having Steve close the night made this night one of the funnest nights I have ever had (until Dada Life threw down on night 3 that is). All in all, if you read this, go to Electric Forest next year, you won’t regret it.

Day One Revisited

Day one of Electric Forest reminded me of jumping into a lake feet first, you don’t know what the water temperature is going to be, only you know it’s going to be awesome. When Leksy and I first got to the festival, we were taken back at the sheer size of the festival grounds and by the absolutely amazing food that lined the venue’s perimeter. After getting a big bowl of Thai food, we decided to head out to watch Borgore wreck the crowd. I have seen Borgore before, but not like this, at his stage I witnessed several thousand people jumping around, dancing, yelling and primarily smiling, as he dropped his brand new tracks. Just look at the pictures, and you’ll understand.

After the sonic destruction left behind by Borgore’s set, we settled down for a bit and checked out some of the vendors. One of which, Stolen Sunday, contained very unique clothing, which lead to a purchase by Leksy. After  scoping out some other vendors as I bought some pizza, and quickly headed back to the Ranch Stage to prepare for Wolfgang Gartner, an artist I have never seen live. When he stepped up onto the stage, the crowd went wild. He began his set with The Champ, if I’m not mistaken, and then it began. One of the unforgettable set’s of Electric Forest, at one of the most unique settings in the world. Below is one of his new remixes, along with the photos Leksy and I took from Day 1.

Wolfgang Gartner’s Remix of Miike Snow’s Paddling Out

Alright fellow Coloradans. Starting on Monday, Kelly Lindau, Jacey Masson, Joseph DiBiasi and myself started the 1300 mile drive to Rothbury, Michigan. We drove straight through the night leaving from Greeley, Colorado at 3:30PM. 14 1/2 hours later and 3 straight states, we made our way to Madison, Wisconsin to relax and go boating before we headed the final 6 1/2 hours to meet up with our Colorado Crew before heading to the festival. After many hugs were exchanged, ice and food was purchased, and excited honks were exchanged, we headed on a 10 car caravan across Michigan. We knew we were close when there were cops directing traffic. We pulled in, and this is where our shenanigans began. All was fine until we told them we didn’t have our wristbands yet… We sent Jacey and Joseph to the campsite with all the other fellow Coloradans while we began a wild goose chase for our bracelets. We finally hunted them down, found our crew, kicked back with some drinks, threw on some sun screen, and promptly took a nap. The music starts at 6PM here at Electric Forest, and our top five artists to see are Borgore, Wolfgang Gartner, and Ghostland Observatory on the Ranch Arena and Eoto and Beats Antique at Sherweood Court. However, there are many shows going on all weekend and we are excited to experience such a large collaboration of music! Keep checking back here for cool photos and more blog updates!

Many people all over the country have been anticipating the amazing Electric Forest Music Festival taking place in Rothbury, Michigan from June 28-July 1, 2012. But this festival is especially exciting for one of EDM’s biggest fan and talent bases, Colorado. The Coloradans trekking the over 2,000 mile (round trip) adventure have created a Facebook group specifically to plan a Colorado camp at the festival. If you aren’t a part of this group yet, and planning to drive from Colorado, hit me up at Alexandra.wolk@colorado.edu so I can get you in! This group now has over 100 members with many planning to meet at a local Wal-Mart and from there to drive in together so we can all camp together for 4 days. GotBassMusic.com is so excited and honored to be able to cover such an epic coming together of the EDM scene’s biggest fan from the state where the company took off also in Colorado. Got Bass’ own DJ K-Smash (Kelly Lindau) and I will be making the crazy 20-hour drive and 4-day camp to experience the wonders of the electric forest and will be posting pictures and interviews as regularly and as quickly as possible. What really has us psyched over here at Got Bass, is this year’s EDM line-up.  To mention just a few artists; Bassnectar, Wolfgang Gartner, Steve Aoki, Major Lazer, and Dada Life will be tearing it up along with many other heavy hitters over 4 insane days in the Michigan wilderness. This past friday the first annual Global Dub Festival was held at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, being one of the first shows to kick off the summer concert season for the venue. This show was put on by AEG Live, the same people that throw Global Dance Festival every year, except this show featured nothing but dubstep artists such as Dirtyloud, Downlink, Datsik, Doctor P, and Flux Pavilion.

When I arrived Coult 45 of the sub.mission crew had just finished his set. The duo Dirtyloud came on next and switched things up a little bit by playing a lot of hard electro-house (something that wasn’t heard the rest of the night). The crowd was getting down to their house music, especially when they played some half-time house like their track “Needle”. As the sun set Downlink came on next, and started things off with some heavy drumstep. Downlink’s productions cover multiple genres, and he made sure to showcase them in his set, all while still staying true to his dirty, grimy sound. Datsik was on next, and by this time the entire venue was packed (the show was sold out). Datsik also played a lot of his heavy sounding dubstep, but covered other genres as well, like his new drumstep track with Z-Trip, “Double Trouble”. He had a lot of energy during his set, and at one point even stood on top of a table. At the end of his set he thanked the whole crowd and said that Denver is his favorite city to play in the U.S. Doctor P was next on the decks, and played all of his hits that has made him famous over the years. Sometimes his set would mellow out a little bit, and then he would drop a track like “Tetris” and the crowd would go absolutely nuts.

Flux Pavilion was the headliner of the night, and his visuals proved it. Unlike the rest of the DJs, Flux Pavilion had his own specially made visuals, most of which prominently displaying his “FP” logo. I’m pretty sure they were made specifically for his set since they synced up so well, especially for songs like “Bass Cannon”, which had the logos being destroyed by huge speakers (much like the music video). At the end, or encore, of his set, he played through all of his huge dubstep hits like “I Can’t Stop”, “Cracks”, “Gold Dust”, and his new track “Daydreamer”. After his set he also thanked everybody and said that this was the best show in the U.S. he’s ever played.

Dubstep pioneer Datsik has finally released his long awaited debut album ,Vitamin D, on Steve Aoki’s label Dim Mak, and it doesn’t disappoint. Any fan of the dark robotic dubstep sounds that Datsik is known for will be extremely pleased with this album, especially with songs like Annihilate, Bonafide Hustler, Complete Control, and Punisher.

Along with the songs of which you’d expect from Datsik, he proves that he can also dabble into other genres as well, like drumstep and moombahton (Syndrome, Don’t Feel Right, Light The Fuse, and Double Trouble). Datsik worked alongside many other artists for this album too, having tracks featuring Downlink, Snak The Ripper, Infected Mushroom, Messinian and Z-Trip. This album is a must buy.

Ultra Music Festival sold out in record time! 73days before the party launches!!

ULTRA is also returning to downtown Miami with Bayfront Park as its new location in order to accommodate a larger footprint for increased capacity.

Over the last few years, the festival took place at Bicentennial Park, but after reaching a record-breaking 150,000 in attendance this year, and becoming the first ever, and only 3-day music festival of its kind to completely sell out 150,000 tickets six weeks in advance, ULTRA is moving next door to the tropical, waterfront park nestled between Biscayne Bay and Biscayne Boulevard.

The ULTRA team is taking it back to Bayfront, where it last took place in 2005, transforming and customizing the park in a way never seen before.
