Rusko Comes Back to Denver At the Bluebird Theatre and the Fox

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day one Rusko was surrounded by music. Whether it be his family’s pianos, guitars, banjos and saxophones or the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of later years in Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.

After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through Sub Dub and a debut appearance from the Digital Mystikz. Having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko brought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive and quickly coined his own take on the genre and turned the scene upside down. His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit Cockney Thug has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold, and has been remixed by Buraka Som Sistema, Diplo, Caspa, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

Now at 25, Rusko is only in first gear, with collaborations on the table with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Yo Majesty and Wiley, the future sure is looking bright. Already setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists like Adele and A-Trak featuring Kid Sister, Rusko is headed in the right directions.

Triad Dragons and Beatport Announce September Date and New Location for Skylab 2010

Denver, CO – August 23, 2010. This fall, Triad Dragons and Beatport announce the return of the 16th year of SKYLAB music festival – with a new location at the Denver Coliseum on Saturday night, September 25, 2010.

After wrapping up this year’s Global Dance Festival, the largest dance-music event in the Rocky Mountains, SKYLAB’s space theme will be out-of-this-world with an increased capacity of 9500. Enter The Launch Pad, NRG Fuel Pod and the Global Command Module stages to experience performances by international and local talent at Colorado’s only space-themed music-and-arts festival.

Space creatures will come to life under the direction of Ms. EZ and her team of performers. Ha Hau, event producer of both SKYLAB and Global Dance Festival, describes the performance as “out of this world.”

Headliners include dance music pioneer and one of the world’s top trance producers, FERRY CORSTEN from the Netherlands; America’s favorite house DJ BAD BOY BILL; one of today’s most talked-about producers, WOLFGANG GARTNER; SHOWTEK, dubbed the world’s hardest dance act and performing for the first time; jungle icon DIESELBOY; house diva DJ IRENE; and performances by Colorado-based DJs DRAGON, MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS and TRAJIKK. There has been a ton of good tracks popping up recently. Some have shown up in my inbox and the others might not be too new but they are still amazing tracks and you should download them now. Trust me, your ipod and robot ears will thank you.

First is a HUGE dubstep tune from my boy Chris. It maxed out 1000 downloads in the first few days that he put it up. This is one crazy sick remix and really shows how good Omega‘s production skills are.

STS9 thrives on friction. This weekend symbolized bass music taking over Denver and it’s surrounding areas. Only 2 days after the dubsteppers of Fort Collins completely packed out the Aggie for our first group appearance in foco, twenty thousand plus people gathered at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for Mile High Music Festival. Amongst all the amazing performances there was one that absolutely destroyed the speakers and the crowd, BASSNECTAR! He raged the crowd so hard that people were jumping up and down shaking the earth. Chiddy Bang is one of those groups who simply exploded across the U.S. in the past year, just like Pretty Lights. Their most popular song “Opposite of Adults” has been on the radio all summer, and for good reasons. The song always manages to put me in a good mood especially if its sunny outside. They are a perfect fit and will be headlining CU Boulder’s WelcomeFest on Ferrand Field August 21st. Other acts will include Pnuma Trio, XV and Air Dubai. Only students with a valid Buff One card are allowed to attend.

If you are not a CU Boulder Student don’t worry because they will be throwing a show at the Ogden the next day (August, 22 2010) with Air Dubai, XV, and DJ Chonz. If you haven’t heard of Chiddy Band or have only heard their one hit on the radio, I encourage you to take these songs into consideration when burning that next playlist because they will make your drive or workout so much better.

Colorado’s Mile High Music Festival officially announces its 2010 event: August 14 and 15 at The Fields at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. With Dave Matthews Band and Jack Johnson topping the bill of over 40 bands over two days, 2010 promises to be the festival’s biggest and best year yet.

In addition to the headliners, 2010 performance highlights include Weezer, Steve Miller Band, My Morning Jacket, Slightly Stoopid, Atmosphere, Phoenix, Train, Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Keane, Bassnectar, Cypress Hill, Z-Trip, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Drive-By Truckers, Railroad Earth, Ozomatli and many others. The complete list of performers is listed below. Doors will open at 11:00 a.m. each day.

A relative newcomer on the national festival scene, Mile High Music Festival has already become a summer tradition for Colorado residents and for music fans from coast to coast. The festival grounds, with its remarkable views of the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountain Front Range, is the perfect backdrop for this diverse, lively, and distinctly Colorado music and arts festival.

The Fields at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park is conveniently located just nine miles from downtown Denver, and only 1.8 miles from the I-70 and Quebec exit.
