Pirate Radio!

As Americans we don’t necessarily realize that we are blessed with radio that plays, for the most part, music that we like to hear. But imagine a world without radio. In the 50′s and 60′s the UK had no radio due to a ban on commercial radio. So, groups of dj’s, producers and sound technicians flocked to open water and to rooftops all around London. What you may not know is this is still going on. Yes, the UK has commercial radio now but many new age pirate radio dj’s are those of genres not recognized by the music media, this includes break beat, jungle, drum and bass. These new age pirates fight to get to rooftops using skeleton keys and sketchy ladders to wire transmitters and antennas risking death or imprisonment. Here is a quick video done on pirate radio now and it’s roots lie at the sea forts in the mouth of the Thames River.
